Reporters fell for a fake Time magazine cover about President Donald Trump on Sunday.
A photoshopped Time magazine cover depicting Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin with the headline “Liar in Chief” went viral Sunday. Social media users assumed the cover was authentic, and the image quickly spread across Twitter.
But a few reporters checked Time’s cover vault and the image appear didn’t appear. A Time spokesperson confirmed the cover was a fake.
When Twitter user @markmobility tweeted out the fake magazine cover, it quickly caught fire. His tweet had over 7,500 retweets before people realized the image was fake. He later deleted the tweet.
